The season for electing town selectmen is underway locally. I live in Boothbay but since a public private economic development group (JECD) has been implemented on the peninsula which finances itself by taxing both municipalities, it is fair game to ask questions of candidates for Boothbay Harbor selectmen announcing their candidacy in letters to the editor of the Boothbay Register. I started writing this blog back around 2007 because I observed that in the Maine media, economic development policy is reported propaganda style, one point of view presented, almost exclusively of all others. This media policy extends to major politically transformational economic development acts of legislation, or better said, the failure to publish stories and information before and after such acts are passed. The film Conspiracy  is described like this:  This  is the story of the top-secret Nazi meeting to debate the merits of Hitler's 'Final Solution,' the extermination of the entire Jewish population of Europe. Kenneth Branagh and Stanley Tucci star in this gripping drama.  The film is based on document of record about a meeting that took place among the power elite of Nazi Germany (excluding Hitler) . The meeting took place in a very wealthy home which once belonged to a Jew. Although the meeting is billed as a "debate" about policy, it is actually an announcement about policy that is already being implemented on a mass scale. The film is a dramatization of what a corporate state looks like in action and taken to its worse degree. Since I have been researching the economic development statutes it has become clear to me that since the Maine legislature deemed that centrally managing the economy is an essential government function in 1977 when the legislature chartered the Maine Development Foundation Corporation, that every governor and every legislature has advanced the corporate state no matter what party is in control and the media has obediently not questioned or engaged any conversation about the underlying political philosophy that is being altered by such actions on the part of our legislature and administrations.There is never a point in time when the political philosophy at work is included in the political talking points of the day. And so as Mikkel Clair Nissen describes about Denmark, there is no right - as in conservative- side of politics in Maine today
