Two Round Abouts in Boothbay Plan ?

This is a comment posted in response in the lobbying video for the Boothbay Round Abou t, which the video reveals to be two round abouts: The first shown above and the second shown below; Or if I am mistaken and they are the same round about, then the round about is not located where the much discussed four way stop is situated . It is the four way stop and the "traffic from the botanical gardens, which I have never even noticed which is said to be a "nightmare" of a congestion problem" (wishful thinking!) Not intended as a comment on the quality of the video production, which is well done, but this is a propaganda video because it is presenting only one side of the question and is clearly intended to sell the round about to the public. One of the quotes is "No matter what the volume on the road- it is constantly moving". That is true for the roundabout. It is not true for the four way intersection which has four stop signs. Th...

Discussion of LePage Budget Rages On Amid a Flurry Of Comments Being Scrubbed From The Net

Tweet This   http://goo.gl/FLhMCz I published this post in a shorter form several hours ago and decided to add to it. In the process composing this update I discovered that the post has become un-published but not by me. The images that you see throughout are documenting that my blog post was scrubbed from the net but that it does not register as having been done so by myself through an action of reverting it to draft. I included the web address bar for each screen which shows that the post had formerly been published. I haven't had time to write lately as I need to focus on our business but I have been involved in many discussions on line about the LePage budget.  I am hearing that comments not in favor of  LePage's fundamental transformation of Maine have been scrubbed from Lepage's  Facebook page and I have now had my first comment scrubbed by the Bangor Daily News, which until now has been remarkably fair about publishing comments. One can see a lists of...

Is the State Of Maine Attempting A Tax Swap with Maine's Home Rule?

In this  article from the Portland Press Herald , we find this sentence: Brennan ( Mayor of Portland)  would also like to see a bill passed to allow regional tax increment financing, an incentive for economic development that returns property dollars to developers or regions without affecting state subsidies for education and the like. I am guessing that what they mean is "Brennan would also like to see a bill passed to allow regional tax increment financing, an incentive for economic development that returns property taxes to developers or regions without affecting state subsidies for education and the like." In which case it looks like a direct attempt to  use linguistic cloaking to cover up what they are actually aiming to do. Regional tax increment is a term that means using future projected property tax revenues to finance development. However it is often overlooked that with increased property tax revenue ,the need for municipal services...

L.R. 492: Governor LePage's Unconstitutional Proposal

L.R. 492, is a  bill the LePage administration submitted recently to clarify the law exempting some aviation companies from paying property taxes. The language of the bill is not yet public, but George Gervais, Gov. Paul LePage 's commissioner of the Department of Economic and Community Development, said Wednesday that it is designed to ensure that the law exempting aviation uses is applied consistently. LePage administration wades into Brunswick tax fight  -Steve Mistle   Portland press Herald What Governor Lepage and the state's  Department of Economic and Community Development  are proposing is is a violation of the Home Rule Amendment of the Maine State Constitution, providing that property taxes are included in the charters of municipal corporations. There cannot be anything more clearly " local and municipal in character" than property taxes- which are based on property located within the municipality and are justified as p...
