Trump has brought into focus a long brewing social crisis SELECTED FOR THE BEST OF TREMR darren-deloach-unsplash I was a Republican, until the 2016 convention when a petition gathered enough signatures to let delegates vote their conscience, and was promptly dismissed by a voice vote.  That was when I first became aware that the Republican party was afraid, intimidated and dominated by the Trump base. I felt the party took the traditional base of the party, which included myself, for granted, as if we were party players, guaranteed to support the party, unquestionably, no matter where it went. Deeply ro o ted party obedience has been established. Many whom I once respected and are no longer recognizable. Those of us who did not follow the leaders no longer have a place in the Republican party and have largely become Independents. I was recently engaged in an online conversation in which an article titled The Corporate Alliance with Political Radicalism: A Great Deal of Ruin in a Nation by Carl F Horowitz was brought up with the following quotation: Why are so many corporations, especially those that provide information technology, promoting political radicalism? As our national drama unfolds as a tale of alleged money laundering clogging the arteries of presidential politics, a uniquely positioned character emerges in Steve Bannon. Once rumored to be the power behind the throne, Bannon is now banished from the regime, fired from his job, and cut off from his financial supply chain. Steve Bannon has nothing left to lose. Being a Republican and a conservative is a moral qualification for earning the Republican nomination. Ever since Trump entertainment Industries entered the Republican primaries, the media has been talking about the Trump candidacy as a done deal as if conducting psychological warfare by intentional design. In fact the delegates have not voted yet and in truth qualifications for earning the conservative party nomination should have a required measure of conservatism. Recently Mr Trump said that America should just have a "great president" and it doesn't matter whether the president is Democrat or Republican, which begs the question, if that is the way Mr Trump feels , why isn't he running as an Independent? To Republicans and conservatives it does make a difference and so one must ask how can one earn the Republican nomination when one is, by self admittance neither a conservative nor a Republican? This is my view. Conservatism is Individualism The purpose of American conservatism is to preserve the political philosophy of the founders of the   United States, as documented in The United States Constitution, the Federalist Papers and The Declaration of Independence. The fundamental principal of that philosophy is individual liberty. A conservative considers policy within the framework of the United States Constitution. A progressive regards the Constitution as outdated and no longer suitable for today's world. A conservative rejects policy if it is inconsistent with the Constitution. A progressive devises ways around the Constitution and the statutes if they pose obstacles to what the progressive wants.
